Organisations are complex and organisations are complicated. Their complexity is natural and innate, stemming from the myriad of interactions between people. Their complicatedness is man-made, a product of the many structures and systems introduced to control that complexity.
Some say that complexity is increasing in response to environmental pressures and rapid change. Certainly, as organisations grow and decline, change shape and transform, organisational life is typically becoming more dynamic.
